陈国达教授 Professor Chen Guoda

    中国科学院资深院士陈国达教授，1912 年生，1934年毕业于中山大学地质系。曾任中山大学地质系教授、系主任，中南工业大学地质系主任、学术顾问，中国科学院长沙大地构造研究所所长。兼任中国地质学会副理事长、湖南省地质学会理事长，国际地科联矿床大地构造委员会副主席兼地洼学组主席，国际地洼构造与成矿研究中心主席，国际期刊《全球构造与成矿学》顾问编委，国际期刊《大地构造与成矿学》主编等职。第四、五、六届全国人民代表大会代表。
陈国达教授是一位国内外知名的地质学家，同时也是丹霞地貌研究的先驱和宣传者。早在20世纪30年代, 陈教授研究中国南部中、新生代红色岩层时，就注意到这种岩层所形成的地貌特色及其在风景地质学中的意义和旅游资源价值，并以发育典型的丹霞山为名, 将其称为“丹霞山地形”。1939 年在研究江西贡水流域地质时，他正式使用“丹霞地形”这一科学术语。在以后的论著中，他多次使用丹霞地貌这一术语。

Brief Account of Professor Chen Guoda

    Professor Chen Guoda, the experienced academician of China Scientific Academy, was born in 1912, and graduated from the Department of geology, Zhongshan University in 1934. He has successively been the director of geology department of Zhongshan University and of Central South University of Technology; the head of Changsha Institute of Geotectonics, Science Academy of China; the vice chairman of GSC, and Chairman of Geology Institute of Hu’nan Province, and the vice chairman of CTOD of International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). Now he is the chairman of International Research Center for Diwa Tectonics and Metallogeny, consultant editor of Global Tectonics and Metallogeny, and chief editor of Geotectonica et Metallogenia.
Professor Chen is not only a famous geologist, but also the pioneer and propagandist in the study of Danxia Geomorphology. As early as 1930’s, he noticed a special landform developed on the Mesocenozoic continental red beds, which would be significant in scenic geology and valuable for tourism. In 1939, he put forward the scientific term of Danxia Landform, and used this term many times in his following articles.
