He graduated from the Department of Geography, Anhui Normal University in January, 1982. Currently he is the associate professor and supervisor of Master degree candidate of Urban and Resources Planning Department of Zhong-shan University. He has given lectures of 11 courses including geology, geomor-phology, tourist geography and applied fine arts. His theoretical and practical research subjects are largely geology and geomorphology, regional tourism development, tourist resort development and tourism planning. He has published over 50 scientific papers, and 7 books in which he is the sole author, co-author or editor-in-chief. He has taken charge in the tourism development planning or tourism development research for Shantou, Foshan, Qingyuan, Shaoguan, Gaoming, Chenghai cities, western coast of Shenzhen, and Mt. Danxia of Guangdong Province and Anyang city of He*nan. He is also the president of The Danxia Landform and Tourism Development Research Society of China, member of Commission on Tourist Geography of Geographic Society of China, member of Commission on Regional Tourism Development of China Tourist Association, member of Specialist Commission on Forest Landscape Resources Appraisal of National Ministry of Forestry, vice president of Commission on Tourist Geography of Geographic Society of Guangdong Province et al.Peng Hua began his research on Danxia geomorphology and its tourism development in 1987. He has examined the Danxia geomorphologic sites in Anhui, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Hu*nan, Guangxi, Qinghai and Guizhou, published 16 papers on this subject, taken charge in the publication of the procee-dings of the 4th, 5 th and 6 th Danxia geomorphologic tourism development symposia. He was member of a council of the 1st conference, vice president of the council of the 2nd conference, and in 1998 the president of the council of the 3rd conference of The Danxia Landform and Tourism Development Research Society. Peng Hua is one of the scholars in China involving earlier in the research on Danxia geomorphologic tourism development practice. In 1988, cooperated with Prof. Chen Chuankang of Beijing University, and succeeded in applying for approval for classifying Mt. Danxia as a state-grade scenic spot (National Park). In 1989, they completed the overall planning of this scenic spot. In 1992-1995, Peng Hua was in charge directly of the planning, design and development of the Yangyuanshan and the Xianglong Lake scenic spots, and new gate of Mt. Danxia. In 1994, together with Prof. Huang Jin, he compiled a complete set of materials concerning classifying Mt. Danxia as a State geological-geomorphologic natural preservation area. These set of materials was reviewed and passed by a unanimous vote in a meeting held by the Reviewing Committee on State Natural Preservation Areas, and was approved by the State Council in 1995. In 1997, Peng Hua completed compilation of the overall planning for Mt. Danxia State Geological-Geomorphologic Natural Preservation Area. Since 1995 when the Yangyuanshan and Xianglong Lake scenic spots developed under Peng Hua*s supervision were opened to the public, the aging of scenic spots, the indifference in image, the standstill and going downwards of the market, and other unfavorable situation of Mt. Danxia has changed thoroughly, while a development tendency has been formed that the average annual number of tourists and the tourism income have increased at a speed of 18% and 25% respectively. Currently Peng Hua is still the Chief Engineer of the State Key Scenic Resort and State Geological Geomorphologic Natural Prote-ction Area of Mt. Danxia. The goals set for the term of his office as the president of the council of The Danxia Landform and Tourism Development Research Society are as follows: to promote probing studies on formation conditions, dynamic mechanism, evolutional process and classification system of Danxia geomorphology, in order to establish a scientific system for Danxia geomorphology; to expand the field of applied research, in order to more directly, more thoroughly and more effectively take part in tourism development practice, and to create chances for the development of the discipline; to connect as soon as possible with international research activities, and to organize and convene an international symposium on Danxia geomorphology, in order to establish a position in international geomorphologic classification system for Danxia geomorphology. Comments, exchanges, cooperative research in relevant fields and other sugge-stions from colleagues at home and abroad who wish to carry out research work on Danxia geomorphology are welcome! |
